Subaru Impreza WRC 2008 Rally Car

Subaru has recently unveiled their new generation All-Wheel Drive Impreza World Rally Car 2008, which will race at this month’s Acropolis Rally in Greece. Unlike what we have seen in many years, Subaru this time will use a bold new color scheme prominently featuring the famous Subaru constellation logo.

The new Impreza WRC is based on the iconic road-going Impreza WRX STI, which has been a hit for Subaru since its February launch. This machine powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder boxer engine which producing around 224 Kilowatts of power.

The Impreza WRC 2008 will be driven by Australia’s Chris Atkinson and Norwegian Petter Solberg in the Acropolis Rally starting 29 May.

For record, SWRT has won the World Rally Manufacturers’ Championship in 1995, 1996 and 1997, and the Driver’s Championship in 1995, 2001 and 2003.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Tony Stewart won his first race as a team owner Saturday night, breaking through for a $1 million payday with a victory in the annual All-Star race.

Stewart passed Matt Kenseth with two laps to go of a thrilling final 10-lap shootout to win his first All-Star event in 11 previous starts. It was the first victory since he left Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of last year, after two championships and 10 successful seasons, to become co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing.

In just six months, Smoke has turned his new toy into a championship contender. It was the first win for the organization, which was known as Haas CNC Racing for its first seven seasons.

The win at Lowe's Motor Speedway was in front of co-owner Gene Haas, who was at the track for the first time since the completion of a 16-month federal prison term for tax fraud.

"Man, he's not going to miss a week now," Stewart said. "He gets here and we win a race."

Stewart became the second driver/owner to win the All-Star race, joining Geoff Bodine, who won in 1994.

His crew urged him to the climb the fence in celebration — a tradition he started several years ago — but the driver who turns 38 next week declined.

His crew climbed for him.

Kenseth finished second and was followed by Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.

The format of the Sprint-sponsored event was once again changed, this time to cut the 100-lap race into four segments that culminated with a 10-lap sprint to the finish. It was a nod to races past, which had a history of dramatic dash-for-the-cash finishes.

It didn't disappoint.

Lifting My GMC K2500.Part lll

There are a total of four brackets and 18 bolts involved in reattaching the front bumper (or six brackets and 22 bolts, if you didn't read the directions properly). I'd recommend getting a second person to help with this task, even though the bumper itself is far lighter than it looks.

With the bumper now cantilevered above the frame instead of sitting directly in front of the rails (see the before-and-after pics below), I think it's fair to raise a concern that perhaps it's not offering a lot of protection to the front of the truck anymore. A couple of weeks after this lift was installed, I hit a 50 lb dog with the truck, and it was enough to tweak one side of the bumper by about an inch. I think it's time to investigate a better bumper setup.

Once the bumper was in place, a test fitment of the wheels and tires showed that some extra clearance would be needed at the lower rear corners. First, I removed this little piece of plastic trim:

And then I attacked the bumper with the aforementioned cutoff wheel and removed a little chunk of material.

Alright, we're almost done. Time to crawl underneath one last time and tidy up the fuel lines. This was the only area of the project where I had to resort to zip ties.

Yes, that bit of corrosion on the brake lines is cause for concern. Now, it's finally time to mount the wheels and tires. I'm a big fan of using antisieze on the lugs, as well as any area where the wheel contacts the brake rotor/drum. GM states that lugs should never be lubricated, but I simply cannot bring myself to put lug nuts on a dry wheel stud because the odds are good I'll have to remove that nut someday.Stay tuned..

I know a lot of people who firmly believe that when it comes to cars, “geniuses pick green”. And while only half of those people actually own green cars, it made me think about the importance of picking out your car’s color.

It’s an ongoing joke between my guy friends that when women visit the car lot, the first question they ask is “does this come in pink?”, and while this may be true in some cases, it’s not because women don’t care about the actual performance of the car, it’s just because color matters.

According to the Colors Matter website, your choice of car color creates an impact in your life. It also creates an impression on the different people you meet. You may be seated inside your vehicle most of the time, but trust me when I tell you that one of the first things people notice about your ride is the color of the vehicle.

For example: You may be driving a classic beauty like the 1951 Chrysler New Yorker that’s in mint condition, but if the color’s a bit off-putting, then that can distract someone from his/her quiet appreciation of your otherwise genuinely hot ride. True, color boils down to preference, but the key to picking out the perfect car color is to go for the color that represents your personality best.

Side Note: Personally, my favorite car colors include: silver, red, apple green, black and yellow. And the most unattractive car colors for me: brown, puke green/mustard yellow and orange. But that’s personal preference, and if you think your brown car is rockin’ or if it’s a high-quality and high-performance ride with an ATTITUDE, then go for it.

So What Does Your Color Choice Say About You?

Going for Cool Colors: The term “cool” when used in this phrase has more to do with its calming effect on the viewer than its trendy appeal. Cool colors include neutrals like gray, white, silver, green and blue. If you tend to go for cool colors, then there’s a high chance that you’re the type of person who’s laidback, cool, calm and collected. Not a bad description, ei?

Going for Warm Colors: Warm colors like red, yellow and orange indicate an exciting and upbeat persona. These colors are usually more noticeable and flashier, more attention-grabbing than anything else. So if you’re the type of person who’s on the aggressive side or likes being the center of attention, then pick between the various shades of red, yellow and orange for your car.

Other warm but more neutral colors include black and brown.

Mixture Between Warm and Cool Colors: Colors like pink, purple, lavender, the bright green and turquoise tend to be a bit more trendy. Not as flashy as warm colors but not as calming as cool shades either, these hues give off a younger feel for your car.

Beige is another happy in-betweener, but it’s more classic and neutral compared to the rest of the more fashionable colors I mentioned above.

Classic/Neutral Colors: Classic car colors include black, white, gray, ivory, brown, beige and even silver. These colors are more elegant compared to other warm, cool and mixed colors. Going for classic colors produce a more mature and conventional impression on bystanders.

Popular Color Choices: (not listed in order)

Black: Mysterious, classy and somber. Makes you think of the classic James Bond.

Silver: The younger and more modern “black”. Still mysterious, still classy but more chic than somber.

White and Gray: Probably the most classic color choice available. Elegant (as long as you keep it clean) and rather conventional.

Red: Red is probably the flashiest color in the list. Because it’s been a popular color choice for such a long time, it may as well be a classic, but it’s dynamic appeal makes it the perfect color choice for executives, singles, DINKS (double income no kids) and basically the young to the middle-aged. When you drive a flashy red ride, you may come off as the aggressive and the go-getter type. Which you probably are anyways. :P

Blue and Green: Though not really classics, these colors remain as two of the safest and more popular color choices on the market.

Top Ten Things You Should Never Say When You Get Pulled Over for Drunk Driving

Just to answer your question, no I’ve never been caught drunk-driving *winkwink* and NO I don’t approve of driving under the influence of anything that could mean crashing your car or hitting anyone—or anything for that matter. And just for the record, that incident where I wasn’t-caught-drunk-driving-because-I-seriously-wasn’t-drunk-but-just-a-bit-tipsy happened when I was 18. And my dad was outside the house waiting for me—and boy, I got in such big trouble at home I was grounded for 4 freakin’ months. Mercifully, the only thing I did hit was my neighbor’s garden gnome—creepy little thing in the dark, I’ll tell you. If you ask me, I did her a favor. Although I did have to pay for it, and I’m proud to say, I’ve never driven home drunk after that incident. My boyfriend doesn’t drink, so lucky me, right?

So I’ve been prowling the intarwebs the past few days and I came across some great lists on what you should never say when you get pulled over by a cop. I decided to compile a list of my own, thanks to my buddies who happen to be the head honchos of the “major legal faux pas” department, I got verbal ammo for you. I swear, a couple of them are so experienced with getting hauled into jail every once in a while that I’m starting to think they actually enjoy the frisking. *just kidding you guys!*

And now, without further ado: My Top Ten Things You Should Never Say When You Get Pulled Over for Drunk Driving! (Hey, the title’s pretty long yeah? Next time I’ll try coming up with the longest title for a blog post—ever. Or not. Hohum.)

Note: See I’m trying to make the entry as light as possible. I know I’ve been bombarding you with info on specs and trims—and turning you into my own personal car lust confessional. So for a change, something a bit fluffier.

What is Auto Drifting?

For a great number of auto fanatics around the world, there’s no better car movie or better yet, series of car movies, than the three installments of the cult movie series, “The Fast and the Furious”. Of course, if you happen to prefer “Herbie Fully Loaded” then whatever floats your boat—for all I know, you might actually be 10 OR you think like you’re 10 OR you’re a big fan of La Lohan from her Parent Trap days or her rehab stints. (Although, seriously, the movie wasn’t ALL that bad…I’m thinking it could have been worse.)

Anyways, back to “The Fast and the Furious”. In “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift”, we saw the protagonist racing against a bunch of wannabe Yakuza members in what can only be described as an “honor race”. In short, the one who loses must leave the city… forever… Okay, so although I didn’t really like the plot, I have to say that watching those cars “drift” was just incredibly cool and entertaining.

So, What Exactly Is Drifting?

Drifting basically refers to a type of cornering technique where your car’s front wheels semi-lock and point in the opposite direction of where you’re turning. As a result, your vehicle slides along the corner at an almost-right angle from the turn. While most racing sports are all about controlling the movement of the vehicle, this sport focuses on losing traction and controlling while maximizing the skidding motion of the vehicle.

Although drifting may not be anything new in the motor sport racing world, since this practice has been done by racers from the early Grand Prix, this technique was popularized recently by the highly talented racer, Keiichi Tsuchiya. Since he first entered into the motoring world, Tsuchiya has gone on to win several major motor sport titles, while landing the title of being a “drifting legend”, even after he had his license suspended for participating in street racing. Although Tsuchiya is now a retired street and professional racer, a lot of people still look up to him as some type of “drifting god”. (The word “god” might be an overstatement—but this guy seriously has mad skills.)

These days, drifting is still very much popular and is considered a major part of the motor sports and street racing, and not just in Japan, but also in the UK, USA, Europe and even the Middle East.

How Do You Know If You’re Already “Drifting”?

As I said before, the actual act of “drifting”, really isn’t anything new or extraordinary. What’s extraordinary is being able to drift when you want to, and being able to retain control of your vehicle as you drift—now that, requires skill. But if you’ve been driving for a while, and if your vehicle’s rear end, at one point, swung around while you’re on a wet road and you found your heart pumping really fast as you struggled for about 50 feet to regain control of your vehicle, then congratulations! You have involuntarily drifted.

In the early days of automobile racing, vehicle tires didn’t have much grip in them making drifting an effortless and sometimes unwanted vehicle occurrence. These days, even with better traction and grip, great racers or drivers can still “drift” and control the drift to their advantage.

“Drifting” Today

Today, the interest on the sport of “Drift racing” is rapidly spreading from Japan to the West. Complex “drifting” techniques are being practiced by pro-level drivers who can drift through a number of opposing turns without having their wheels ever grip the road. Although I bet it’s an extremely fun and exciting sport, I highly suggest you practice simple “drifting” before practicing any dangerous stunts.

The Design Los Angeles Conference

The Design Challenge is part of the Design Los Angeles automobile designers’ conference that has evolved into an integral element of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Entering its fifth year, Design Los Angeles provides designers with leading design speakers and the opportunity to address common issues. More than 500 designers attended last year’s event.

New this year, the conference will feature the Design Los Angeles Panel, which will have panelists such as Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar Cars and Franz von Holzhausen, senior design executive of Tesla Motors discussing the future of auto design.

The Los Angeles region, long hailed as a leader of creativity and consumer trends, is home to the world’s largest concentration of manufacturer design studios, representing automakers from North America, Europe and Asia.

It is also the home of Art Center College of Design, one of the world’s foremost transportation design institutions where many of today’s leading automotive designers began their careers.

Design Los Angeles is unique in that automobile designers are playing an integral role in its ongoing development. Six prominent designers are on the advisory board to identify issues that are of interest to designers.

Hunter’s handiwork can be found in the exterior designs of Toyota’s Tacoma, Avalon and RAV-4. He was also the chief designer of the Matrix, as well as the 2001 RSC Show Car Concept. Hunter graduated from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.

Derek Jenkins – Chief Designer, Volkswagen/Audi Design Center California

Derek Jenkins became Volkswagen’s North American design chief in 2000. He spent the earlier part of his career in Germany, immersed in the disciplined design environment at Audi. Jenkins’ work includes the Audi A2 and the current-generation A8 production cars. He also designed and directed the development of the Volkswagen Microbus, Concept T show car and the GX-3 that had its world debut at the last January’s LA Auto Show. Jenkins graduated from Art Center College of Design.

David Marek – Chief Designer and Senior Manager, Honda Research & Development

Dave Marek heads the Automotive Styling Group at Honda Research & Development and has been with Honda since 1987. He has served as project leader for such programs as the 1994 Accord Wagon and the 1997 Acura CL. A graduate with honors from the Art Center College of Design, Marek has been an instructor at the college since 1989 and has been instrumental in bringing numerous sponsored projects to the Transportation Department.

Joel Piaskowski – Hyundai Chief Designer, Hyundai Kia America Design Center

Joel Piaskowski is the chief designer responsible for the Hyundai design team. Piaskowski received an early education in the world of automotive design, drawing cars with his father, a designer at DaimlerChrysler. Piaskowski graduated from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit and worked at the General Motors Design Center for more than 12 years before joining Hyundai. The Hyundai HCD-8 Sports Concept is one example of the numerous design projects that have received his design direction.

Frank Saucedo, design director of GM’s studio, has a long list of design credits that include international experience at General Motors’ Russelsheim studio, where he worked on Opel products, including the Corsa, Tigra, Astra and Omega. Saucedo was formerly the chief designer at Volkswagen’s California design studio, as well as chief designer at General Motor's Advanced Concepts Center in Newbury Park, Calif. It may be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell but the Honda FCX Clarity is no work-in-progress; its technology awkwardly shoehorned into an existing model. Nor is it a brittle concept without suspension banned from exceeding 30mph. It's a safety-tested four-seat executive sedan designed from scratch to accommodate hi-tech underpinnings.

Longer than a European-spec Honda Accord but shorter than the current range-topping Legend sedans, the FCX Clarity stands out from both, with a distinctively highly wedged rear end that appears more hatchback than sedan-like in side profile. Indeed, it's closer to the 2009 second-generation Insight (and Toyota Prius) - due in part to gain similar aerodynamic benefits - but its side profile is more stretched and its front face wider, which makes the FCX look far more planted on the road.

The DLO of the FCX Clarity is also more distinctive, thanks to a beltline that drops down aft of the A-pillar. Its rear three-quarter view looks surprisingly good in the metal too, on account of its high but gently sloping trunk lip and wide Aston Martin-alike shoulder line flare above the rear wheelarch. This combination of features impedes rearward vision for the driver, but on the FCX Clarity it is improved by employing an extra vertical glazed polycarbonate section - akin to the European Civic - at the base of the sloping rear screen.

Cabin design freedom and eco orbs

Inside the FCX Clarity has a fully realized interior and a good-sized 370-liter trunk with no encroachment from the single hydrogen fuel tank (the 2005 FCX concept needed two). The rear seats in particular offer truly luxury-level rear leg and headroom on account of a longer wheelbase, which is made possible by being able to distribute the fuel cell powertrain's components throughout the vehicle. In this case, the electric motor and gearbox are in the front to allow the FCX's short nose, the fuel cell stack is situated under the high center tunnel to give a sporty cockpit-like feel and the lithium-ion batteries are tucked under the rear seats.

The IP is split conventionally between upper and lower with a floating console hanging off its central area, but it also features a further division in the top part with a central satnav screen and a digital speedometer display with its own isolated screen and cowl just below the windscreen. So-placed to reduce driver eyestrain, it's logical but difficult to judge the benefit on a limited daytime drive. A further cowl directly below the speedometer houses a single 3D driver's dial to measure battery and hydrogen levels and has a neat feature to assist greener driving. The 3D orb at its center monitors hydrogen consumption: work the accelerator hard and the orb enlarges and turns amber but use less hydrogen and the ball shrinks and turns yellow and then blue.

Other neat touches include concave interior door panels to create more space and the Honda-developed bio fabric derived from plant-based materials. This is employed for much of the trimming, instead of petroleum-based resins and other synthetic fibers. The grey, black and cream color scheme is reasonable but spoilt by fake wood inserts running atop the middle of the center armrest and in between the upper and lower IP. They seem old-fashioned and dishonest for such a future-facing eco car.

Mass production intent

Honda is convinced the FCX Clarity represents the future and has already made a few dozen versions for US and Japanese customers at heavily subsidized US $600 per month leases. In total, 200 are planned over the next two years. The company also aims to develop a more commercially-viable model in the next five years through use of a lighter and smaller fuel cell requiring less expensive raw materials and the economies of scale that a 100,000 per annum production run could bring.

The zero-emission electric dream maybe some way off then, but this car makes it clear Honda believes fuel cells are still the real end game for the long range future of sustainable driving.

GM to Build Cadillac Converj...Well According to One Source

The Detroit News is reporting that GM has finally decided to build the Cadillac Converj, which shares the same extended-range technology as the Chevy Volt.

GM originally unveiled the Cadillac Converj concept at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. A production date has not been set, but it will likely be a few years before it hits the showroom. When it was unveiled Bob Lutz claimed that a production version would remain very close to the concept, just how GM did with the Camaro.

The Converj seems to make sense, since it would increase the number of electric vehicles offered by GM and it would help spread the cost of the technology that is shared with the Volt. GM would also be able to apply a higher sticker price to the Cadillac version, which would also help with costs.

The Volt is still on target for production at the end of 2010, we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that the Converj is going to actually be produced.

More Photos of the Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept Released

Bugatti unveiled the 16C Galibier Concept back in September and now the automaker has showed the car off at a special event in Los Angeles.

The concept is powered by a 8.0L W16 engine with twin-turbochargers that is expected to be mated to an eight-speed transmission. Bugatti hasn't released official specs for the all-wheel-drive Galibier, but it's been rumored that the W16 engine will put out around 800 horsepower and the car will have a top speed around 220 mph.

Bugatti claims that when it is officially released the Galibier will be the fastest and most powerful four-passenger sedan available.

Volvo Unveils the 2011 S60 Ahead of Geneva

Volvo has released the first official photos of the 2011 S60 that is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The all-new S60 draws many styling cues from the S60 concept and features many of the same design elements as the rest of the Volvo models. Unfortunately the suicide doors from the concept didn't make it to production, but the coupe-like roofline remains.

Volvo claims that the new S60 will drive like no other Volvo and will be safer thanks to the Pedestrian Detection system.

The 2011 Volvo S60 will enter production in early summer 2010.

2011 Buick Regal Officially Unveiled

GM has unveiled the model that signifies the return of the Buick Regal. The 2011 Buick Regal will officially return to the US in 2010. Most of you will recognize the Regal as the Opel Insignia that is sold in Europe, with a Buick grille. The Regal has also been on sale in China.

The 2011 Regal shares its platform with the new LaCrosse, but is over six inches shorter with a wheelbase that is also four inches shorter. The Regal is only going to be offered with four-cylinder engines. The standard engine is the same 182-hp 2.4L from the LaCrosse. The optional engine is a turbocharged 2.0L with 220 horsepower. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4L Regal will be available in the first half of 2010 and the turbo will launch by late summer

Ford Fusion Sales Put it in the Top Ten and No. 1 Selling Domestic Car

The 2010 Ford Fusion has been quite the success for Ford. It's been a while since Ford has been competitive in the mid-size sedan market. The days of the best-selling Taurus are a distant memory, but after five years on the market and a successful redesign, the Fusion is picking up pace.

Sales of the 2010 Ford Fusion have already reached 151,137 units, which already eclipses the previous full-year sales high of 149,552 in 2007. In the first 10 months of 2009, Fusion sales have improved 15 percent.

"It's extraordinary that a car could set a sales record in an environment where overall industry sales are down 26 percent from a year ago," Ford sales analyst George Pipas said.

Of course Fusion sales are still way off from the Camry and Accord, but the Fusion is now the best selling domestic car.

Toyota Planning Larger Prius with a Lithium-Ion Battery

A new report is claiming that Toyota is planning a new larger Prius, that will be powered by a lithium-ion battery. The new larger version of the Prius will either be a wagon or SUV and it will supposedly launch by the end of next year.

According to the Japanese Yomiuri newspaper, the new version of the Prius will be Toyota's first hybrid with a lithium-ion battery. Toyota of course has declined to comment on the report.

Toyota is also reportedly working on a Prius coupe to go head to head with the upcoming Honda CR-Z hybrid.

Ford Announces New Police Interceptor for 2011, Goodbye Crown Vic

Ford has announced that the automaker is working on a new Police Interceptor that will replace the aged Crown Victoria in 2011.

The new Police Interceptor will be offered in 2011, when the Crown Victoria is finally discontinued.

"We have heard the repeated requests from the law enforcement community to continue uninterrupted support of the law enforcement community," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas. "Ford is answering the call with the new Police Interceptor - engineered and built in America."

Ford currently holds 75 percent of the police pursuit vehicle business in the U.S. This announcement also follows GM's announcement to release a new Chevy Caprice sedan for police duty.

Each year Ford sells about 45,000 police vehicles.

Lotus has announced the pricing for the 2010 Lotus Evora that will arrive in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2010. The 2010 Evora will start at $73,500.

The Evora features a 2+2 setup with a mid engine. The 3.5L V6 puts out 276 horsepower and 256 lb-ft. of torque. Thanks to its light weight It reaches 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed over 162 mph. It also manages to get over 30 mpg on the highway.

Last week GM officially unveiled the 2011 Buick Regal, which many of you may easily recognize as the Opel Insignia with a Buick grille. Well it looks like GM has more in the works than just the front-wheel-drive four-cyl powered Regals that were unveiled.

Bob Lutz confirmed that GM is discussing the possibility of 335-hp all-wheel-drive model, which makes sense, since Opel offers the Insignia OPC with a 325-hp turbocharged engine and all-wheel-drive. In addition to a more powerful Regal, Lutz also stated that GM is considering a Regal Sport Wagon.

BMW Delays the Launch of the Next X3 in the U.S. to Mid-2011

BMW is going to delay the introduction of the next X3 by six months to launch a new system that will make it easier for buyers to custom order the X3.

This means that the next X3 will not arrive in US showrooms until mid-2011, a full six months after it launches in Europe. The delay will also allow BMW the ability to offer up to four different engines, which will lower the base price of the X3. According to Jim O'Donnell, president of BMW of North America, the X3 could be offered with a four-cylinder and a diesel in addition to the six-cylinder engines. BMW is going to decide by the end of the year if a four-cyl or six-cyl diesel will be offered. Production of the X3 is also going to X3 will shift from Magna Steyr in Austria to BMW's Spartanburg, S.C., factory.

Of course this delay is going to hurt sales of the X3. Its sales are off 67 percent this year

Daimler has announced the start of a new pilot program in Austin, Texas, in which 200 Smart ForTwos will be available through its cars2go car sharing service.

The program will allow city employees to rent the cars for a few hours and then return them to a designated location. It's similar to Zipcar. Daimler also tested the program earlier this year in Ulm, Germany. If it's successful it will be expanded to other areas.

Hyundai's First Direct-Injection 4-Cyl Engine Unveiled, Replaces V6 in Next Sonata

Hyundai has officially unveiled its new direct-injected four-cylinder, which Hyundai claims delivers more power and a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy.

The 2.4L Theta II GDI four-cylinder took four years to develop and will debut in the 2011 Sonata. The engine officially puts out 198 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. of torque. The Theta II engine delivers 7-12 percent more torque across its rev range compared to a conventional engine. The engine is expected to see a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy, although final numbers have not been released. In addition to the direct-injection technology, the engine also gets variable valve timing on both camshafts.

When the 2011 Sonata debuts next year a V6 will not be offered.

2010 Ford Fusion Captures Motor Trend's Car of the Year Award

Ford is definitely on a roll right now and the good news keeps coming in. Today Motor Trend announced that the 2010 Ford Fusion is the recipient of its Car of the Year award.

The 2010 Ford Fusion managed to beat out 23 other models for the award, which included the Toyota Prius, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Ford also had three models this year that were in the running for the award. The Taurus, Fusion and Mustang.

"The MOTOR TREND Car of the Year award is another testament of our commitment to delivering a world-class car lineup," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Ford Global Product Development, who accepted the golden calipers on behalf of the Ford team. "Whether it is the best-in-class fuel economy or quality unsurpassed by Toyota or Honda, the Fusion and Fusion Hybrid are clear evidence that Ford is serious about our car lineup."

This announcement comes on the heels of Ford announcing that the Fusion is now the best-selling midsize domestic sedan in the US and that the model is now in the list of top ten selling vehicles.

LA 2009 Preview: 2011 Mazda2 US-Spec. Set to Debut

Mazda has finally made it official that the small Mazda2 is going to be sold in the U.S. and Canada by the end of 2010. The 2011 Mazda2 will officially be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.

The Mazda2 shares its platform with the Ford Fiesta, which is also set to have its US debut at the show. Mazda has released one teaser of the subcompact, but didn't release any details about the engine lineup and what body styles we will receive. The preview shows the rear of the five-door hatchback model, so we can at least expect that model.

Two-Thirds of All Camaros Sold Have Been V8 Powered

What is surprising to at least GM is that 2 out of 3 Chevy Camaros that drive off dealer lots do so with a V8 under the hood. GM had originally hoped that most of the Camaros sold would be the V6 model so that it would boost the automaker's Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). Up and down, black and white, male and female, wet and dry, fire and water, Metallica and Britney Spears. All of the examples given above could not be anymore different from one another, yet they share certain similarities. Such is the case with the two cars featured in this article. One's black and the other's white, one has a manic, rev happy 1.6 litre screamer while the other has a torque-a-licious, grunty 2 litre powerhouse. Yet they both produce similar power figures; so different yet so alike.

The owners of these two cars have been the best of friends for over 6 years now, both sharing a passion for fast cars, especially Hondas. You may or may not have heard of the infamous Teamrice; a band of maniacal motorheads who like to do nothing but talk about their favourite pastime, fast cars and drag racing. These two cars here are just a couple of examples of how serious Teamrice are about their cars. Just make your way to Restoran Sri Anggerik (aka Carlos) in USJ any night of the week and you can't miss them. Look for a row of mean looking cars and an even longer row of tables. These crazy bastards have been yumcha-ing there almost every night of the week for almost 4 years now. Go figure.

I shall dub both of these cars Ebony and Ivory, for obvious reasons. Ebony is tuned solely by N1 Racing while Ivory is tuned by Links Dyno Tune; both workshops are in Sunway but as a certain few would know, these two garages share a friendly but intense rivalry.

Ebony started life as a JDM EK3, equipped with the weaksauce 1.5 litre D15B with an automatic gearbox. Ebony's owner looked through 6 other examples before finally deciding on buying her from Naza Motors. Lucky number 7 indeed. His first mod on the car was a rear disc brake assembly to fool people into thinking it was something better than a weakling EK3. Later, a 3 inch piping (!) install was followed by a full EK4 interior conversion. A year later, things started to get really serious.

I've seen and heard of many strange things in all my years. You know that our highways are no stranger to being the final resting place for many dead mammals and reptiles, but have you ever seen a fish? Yes, a fish. I once saw a tilapia on the side of the road on the way to work; if I were in a comic strip there'd be "WTF" written all over my face.

Then a week after my encounter with the dead tilapia on Jalan Kuching, the boss tells me over a cigarette that he saw a monkeyummm "doing the Lambada" with a dog on his way in. Hrrmmm. It would be cool to see what a dog and monkey cross breed would look like.

But even that couldn't prepare me for what I was about to encounter with the pink Myvi being featured here: smiley face tyre valve caps. I bet the girls would LOVE these

Here are some photos of the Proton Saga “RED” Concept by Proton Design, which will let some of you soon to be new Proton Saga owners know what modifications could be possible with the car’s aesthetics. Having a special kitted up version of each new model launch has been a tradition now, and I hope this continues.

The Proton Saga “RED” Concept features a nice metallic red paintwork, a black roof, nice light grey grill surrounds, and large wheels, complete with a minimal tyre to fender gap. The interior gets a two-tone black and grey design, with red door trim, red seats and a grey-red trimmed steering wheel.

The Proton Saga is still quite a hot conversation topic right now, as it is the latest and most affordable brand new 3-box sedan on the market to date. Here is Theophilus Chin’s artist’s impression of a kitted up Proton Saga – it looks very similiar to the Proton Saga RED Concept actually but it was actually done before the RED Concept was unveiled.

The Saga “GTi” Concept as Theophilus wishes to call it has a revised front grille that features a blackened area and a chrome top, a revised front bumper with an air intake beneath the grille with a chrome spoiler lip, different fog lamp housings, an Audi-like aluminium side mirror with lower half in matte black, and a blackened B-pillar. The headlamps have smaller turn indicators and the wheels are bigger.

Orders for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG can be placed starting from November 16th

Mercedes-Benz has announced that potential buyers of the 571hp SLS AMG Gullwing can start placing orders on Monday, November 16th. Price starts from €177,310 including 19% VAT. You can also configure your Gullwing online at the mercedes-amg.com website.

Other optional extras include AMG ceramic composite high-performance brakes that go for €11,305, AMG performance suspension with a stiffer setup for €1428, AMG sports bucket seats for €3927, AMG interior carbon package (carbon-fibre trim, trim on seat backrests and sides, door sill panels) for €4165 and more.

New Proton Saga SE in showrooms from 15th August

We now have more details on the new Proton Saga SE, which is positioned as a premium variant of one of Proton’s cheapest cars right now. The Saga SE continues using the 1.3 liter Campro IAFM engine that’s found in the rest of the Saga range except for the taxi model, so what exactly does “SE” mean? Here are the full details:

Only two colours – brilliant red or solid white with a black finish roof top.
New front, rear (with faux diffuser design) and side skirts.
A new front grille with black finish.
Leather seats, door trim and steering wheel
Pearl white instrument cluster
Dark chrome air-conditioning vents
CD player with MP3 support

As previously mentioned, the Saga SE manual is priced at RM43,000 while the automatic transmission model is priced at RM45,500. It is available for booking now for RM500, but the cars will only be in the showrooms from the 15th of August 2009 onwards.

Proton launches Saga SE and Exora Manual – more details to come later!

Proton launched two new models at the Felda Settlers Day in Johor today – the Proton Saga SE and the Proton Exora 1.6 manual.

From the info I am getting now, the Saga SE uses a 1.3 liter Campro IAFM engine as before (the sole 1.6 liter model continues in taxi spec), but comes with aesthetic and equipment changes, while the Proton Exora 1.6 M/T like its namesake comes with a manual transmission. The Proton team is having trouble sending full specs and press release over because they are in an area without internet access now but at least we have the prices:

proton previews the Proton Saga EV Concept

Proton previewed an all-electric version of the Proton Saga sedan in University Putra Malaysia, Serdang during the “Proton Exora – The Making” seminar organized by SAE International earlier this week. The “Proton” name would definitely make sense on this particular car!

You might expect this plug-in electric vehicle to have been co-developed with Detroit Electric which have a deal to produce electric cars based on the Proton GEN2 and the Proton Persona for certain overseas markets under the Detroit Electric brand. But on the contrary, what you see above is an in-house project done with the help of unnamed suppliers and partners.

This means that unlike the Detroit Electric e46 (based on the Proton Gen 2) and the Detroit Electric e63 (based on the Proton Persona), the electric Saga (officially called the Proton Saga EV Green Propulsion Concept for now) is probably being considered for the local market, although the auto maker is very tight-lipped about possible launch dates. It could take years.

The emissions-free Proton Saga EV on display features a 125kW (168hp) brushless DC electric motor, mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. It has a 20kWh Lithium Ion Polymer battery pack (12 separate batteries stored in the trunk). Because of the batteries, truckspace is pretty much non-existent but this is quite normal with concept electric cars based on a chassis that was originally designed to take a regular combustion engine and fuel tank. A production car would ideally have neater integration of the batteries.

According to Proton, the Saga EV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds, up to a top speed of 161 km/h, with a driving range of 109 kilometers over a full charge. Both the Detroit Electric e46 and e63 will feature a 150kW Axial Magnetic Flux motor instead.

There is more! The “green-mobil” also features re-generative braking and an electric power steering, apart from a built-in Batter Management System (BCMU), a plug-in charger (with a household power outlet), air conditioning as well as an In-Vehicle display screen that displays various information pertaining to the electric vehicle functions. Sources also revealed that Proton has plans to built an electric Exora MPV, and, is currently working on some hybrid vehicles as well, for research and development.

Since Proton took the trouble to produce a fully functioning Saga EV Concept, I am sure it is a matter of time till we actually see Proton-built electric cars on the road, but it doesn’t end at just producing such emissions-free vehicles. There has to an infrastructure ready to accommodate charging in the outdoors, which is something that will involve the government, apart from the private sector.

Nissan Recalling 26K 2009-2010 Altima and Maxima Sedans

Nissan has issued a recall of 26,398 according to the NHTSA. The affected vehicles are being recalled due to an issue with the upper front strut insulators.

The upper front insulators may have been manufactured out of spec. which may cause them to crack, which would allow the struts to come out of their mounting position. This problem could affect vehicle stability and possibly lead to a crash.

Nissan is going to begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles and will replace the strut insulators free of charge.

Toyota has announced the pricing for the 2010 4-Runner, Land Cruiser, Venza, Tacoma and Prius.

-The all-new 4-Runner was unveiled yesterday and starts at $27,500 for the SR5 4x2.

-The Venza starts at $26,275 for the four-cylinder front wheel-drive model, which is an inease of $300.

-The iconic Land Cruiser starts at a pricey $65,970, an increase of $1,215.

-The Tacoma receives a price increase of $175, with the base model starting at $15,345.

-The new Prius, which was released just a few months ago will see price increases of $400 for the Prius II, III, IV and V models. The Prius I pricing remains unchanged with a starting price of $21,000

Mazda has released official images of its next-generation SKY powertrains and the Kiyora concept that will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show next month.

The SKY-D' diesel engine, SKY-G' direct injection gasoline engine and SKY Drive' high-efficiency automatic transmission define "Mazda's approach to developing next-generation powertrains that will significantly improve the eco-friendliness and dynamic performance of all Mazda vehicles."

In addition to the new more efficient engines and transmissions debuting at the show, the Kiyora concept is Mazda's newest take an an eco-friendly, but fun to drive car. It's powered by the next-generation Mazda SKY-G 1.3 engine mated to the new six-speed Mazda SKY-Drive automatic transmission. The Kiyora concept achieves fuel economy numbers of 32 kilometers per liter and its compact body weighs 100 kilograms less than Mazda's current mass production model in the same segment

Tokyo 09' Preview: Honda CR-Z Concept Gets Closer to the Real Thing

Honda unveiled the CR-Z hybrid concept at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show and now two years later the concept that is hitting the stage at again at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show. As typical with most Honda concepts, the concept version ends up being very close to the final product. According to Honda officials, the concept that we will see next month is 95 percent of the real thing. The production version of the Honda CR-Z will be officially unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

The spiritual successor to the much loved CR-X, the 2011 CR-Z is a 2+2 coupe powered by a 1.5L i-VTEC inline-4 combined with Honda's IMA hybrid powertrain and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Who knows if Honda may eventually broaden the appeal of the CR-Z with the addition of non-hybrid powertrains.

The interior of the concept is near production ready and features a layout that looks somewhat similar to the Insight. The Ni-Mh battery pack is believed to be under the floor like in the Insight, in which the CR-Z is based on.

The 2011 CR-Z is expected to go on sale in Japan in February 2010 and in the U.S. a few months after that.

Tokyo 09' Preview: Honda Skydeck Concept Hybrid Minivan Unveiled

The 2009 Tokyo Motor Show is right around the corner and even though a number of automakers have already pulled out of the show, we can expect to see a number of reveals. Honda is set to unveil a near production ready Honda CR-Z in addition to the Skydeck concept shown here.

The Honda Skydeck Concept is a six seater minivan hybrid. Honda is most likely looking for other areas to apply its hybrid technology and this minivan concept could be a possibility. Of course those scissor doors wouldn't make it to production. Honda hasn't released any technical specs, but we do know that the hybrid system has been moved to the center console.

Tokyo 09' Preview: Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept Has Wings

Subaru will be showing off the Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show next month.

The gullwing Hybrid Tourer Concept is a four-passenger concept that Subaru describes as "a new proposal for the future of [the] grand touring car."

The Hybrid Tourer Concept is powered by a horizontally opposed 2.0L direct injection turbocharged four cylinder mated to a hybrid motor system with lithium-ion batteries. The hybrid system is a two-motor system with a motor in the front and rear of the car. During normal driving the front motor is primarily used, but at start up and extremely low speeds the rear motor is mainly used.

The third concept to take the Honda's stage at the Tokyo Motor Show next month alongside the CR-Z and Skydeck will be the EV-N Concept. At first glance the small electric EV-N immediately recalls Honda's N360 minicar from the 1960s.

The EV-N features lithium-ion batteries and seating for four. There is a communications system embedded in the front fascia, something that Honda calls HELLO, s solar roof and swappable seat fabrics. The front passenger door also has one Honda's U3-X personal mobility devices tucked in it for when you aren't riding in the car

Next spring, Nissan is going to start taking orders for the Leaf EV, with deliveries starting that fall. Nissan is expecting to receive 20,000 orders, which is well over the 5,000 Leafs Nissan has planned to lease in 2010.

For the first two years of production all Leafs will be imported to the US from Japan. By 2012 Nissan expects to have completed a $2 billion investment in its Smyrna, TN production facility to produce 150,000 electric vehicles and 200,000 lithium-ion batteries per year.

Tokyo 09' Preview: Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV has an Anti-Aging Interior

Just like almost every other preview so far of the Tokyo Motor Show next month, most of the concepts being unveiled have some sort of electric motor under the hood. Mitsubishi is following suit with the unveiling of the Concept PX-MiEV, which features Mitsubishi's Plug-in Hybrid System in a CUV body.

The Concept PX-MiEV features two electric motors that power the front and rear wheels coupled to a 1.6L DOHC MIVEC gasoline engine that powers the front wheels and also acts like a generator. The new plug-in system allows users to plug into either a 100 or 200-volt outlet. The concept is capable of traveling in EV mode up to 30 miles, which can transfer power between the front and rear wheels when necessary. The Concept PX-MiEV also features the same S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) system as the Evolution X.

Mitsubishi's cocochi-interior "embraces occupants in a pleasantly comfortable cabin environment developed to a Clean, Stress-free and Safe & Reassuring theme." 2010 Nissan Altima Gets a Refresh and Starts at $19,900

Nissan has released the official specs, photos and pricing for the refreshed 2010 Nissan Altima Coupe and Sedan.

On the outside the Altima gets a restyled hood, grille and front bumper and new wheels. Inside there are new fabrics and trim and revised option packages. A new nine speaker Bose audio system and the next-generation Nissan Hard Drive Navigation System with 6.5-inch VGA color touch-screen display are optional.

The powerplants remain unchanged with the 175-hp 2.5L 4-cyl, 275-hp 3.5L V6 and the 198-hp hybrid available only on the sedan.

Pricing starts at $19,900 for the base 2.5S sedan and goes all the way up to $29,600 for the 3.5 SR (no longer named SE) coupe

Honda's CEO Takanobu Ito recently stated that he sees Hyundai as a major threat to the Japanese automakers.

"Hyundai is awesome," said Takanobu. "They are undoubtedly a threat because their products are cheap, and the quality is improving."

Hyundai's sales have been improving, while many of its other competitors have seen its sales decline in the last year. Obviously new products like the Genesis are changing the perception of the brand and it's no longer seen as the throw away car brand of the 80's.

Tokyo 09' Preview: Toyota FT-86 Concept...Toyota and Subaru's New RWD Coupe

We've been hearing for a while that Toyota and Subaru have been working on a new rear-wheel-drive coupe together. Well here is our first look at the concept that is going to be unveiled this month in Tokyo.

The concept is inspired by the Corolla-based AE86 sports coupe of the 1980's and was designed in France. It is powered by a 2.0L boxer engine from Subaru that sends the power to the rear wheels.

The production version is expected to be unveiled sometime next year with sales starting at the end of 2011. The expected starting price is around $20,000.

Honda has released interior photos of the controversial 2010 Accord Crosstour.

Honda describes the interior of the Accord Crosstour as "versatile" with its one touch lever, which is used to fold the rear seats from the cargo area and under floor hidden storage area. The dashboard is pretty much right out of the sedan version.

Does the interior help you like this car any better than before?

In addition to the release of more photos, Honda has confirmed that the Accord Crosstour will come standard with a 3.5L V6 with 4-wheel-drive being optional. Honda has yet to release the final specs, but the vehicle will be on sale in November

Infiniti Confirms M35 Hybrid for 2012 Model Year

Infiniti virtually unveiled the 2011 Infiniti M at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August and today the automaker revealed plans for the introduction of the 2012 M35 Hybrid and its JDM equivalent the Nissan Fuga.

Infiniti's first hybrid, the M35 hybrid will not rely on Toyota's technology like the Nissan Altima hybrid, but rather a new internally developed hybrid system. The M35 hybrid will be Infiniti's cleanest and most fuel efficient model. It will primarily be powered by a 3.5L V6 that sends the power to the rear wheels. Infiniti claims that the hybrid components will only add to the driving experience and not take away from it, like most other hybrids. The electric motor is powered by a laminated lithium-ion battery that holds twice the power of nickel-metal hydride batteries and cools twice as fast because it's lamination.

The Infiniti M is expected to go on sale early next year as a 2011 model, with the hybrid following a year later as a 2012 model.

Honda CR-Z Will Only be Offered as a Hybrid

If you were hoping that Honda was eventually going to release a non-hybrid version of its upcoming CR-Z hybrid, it looks like your hopes are lost. Although a CR-Z with the 2.0L from the Civic Si would have been awesome, according to a source it's not going to happen.

"This will definitely only be a hybrid," a source said. "The whole direction of Honda is hybrids and this car is designed all around a hybrid powertrain. The car isn't boring; it is responsive and fun."

Although the CR-Z has been dubbed the spiritual successor to the much-loved CR-X from the 80's, it's not going to be offered with a high revving conventional engine

Tokyo 09' Preview: Nissan Unveils the Leaning Land Glider Concept

In addition to the unveiling of the Leaf EV at the Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan is also going to show off another electric vehicle, the Land Glider Concept. Nissan boasts that its extremely narrow dimensions will help it maneuver through traffic in urban areas and make it easier to park.

The Land Glider concept holds two passengers in a cockpit that looks like it came directly out of a video game. What is interesting is that the concept has the ability to lean like a motorcycle through turns.

New Sketches of Subaru's Version of the FT-86 Unveiled

Toyota unveiled a concept version of its upcoming rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, the FT-86 concept a few days ago. The coupe is the result of a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru, so we've all been waiting to see what the Subaru version is going to look like.

Autocar has posted a few sketches of what Subaru's version of the coupe may look like. Although the final design is far from finalized. There are supposedly a few hurdles within Subaru that need to be addressed first. Such as the fact that Subaru has built its brand upon the existence of all-wheel-drive in all of its vehicles. Subaru has never built a small rear-wheel-drive coupe. Subaru may rework the car to feature all-wheel-drive, but it may add weight. Subaru is also having issues sharing its technology with Toyota.

Subaru is supplying the 2.0L boxer engine and the basic platform for both cars. Also both cars are set to be produced at Subaru's facility in Japan.

Toyota is set to unveil it's version of the coupe, but it's not known when Subaru will.

Subaru has released more photos of the Hybrid Tourer Concept that is set to debut in Tokyo.

The gullwing Hybrid Tourer Concept is a four-passenger concept that is Subaru's first attempt at a hybrid vehicle. The concept is powered by two electric motors that get their juice from a lithium-ion battery pack and a 2.0L boxer engine with direct-injection.

Who remembers the Subaru SVX from the 90's? The SVX was produced from 1991 to 1997 and was Subaru's first attempt at making GT Coupe. Although the SVX failed to meet expectations, Subaru is reportedly working on a successor.

According to the latest reports, Subaru is working on a new coupe that will be based on the same platform as the Hybrid Tourer Concept that is going to be unveiled next week in Tokyo. The car would be powered by a turbocharged 2.5L boxer engine, although a hybrid powerplant is also a possibility. The SVX successor would target high-end performance models.

The SVX is in addition to the FT-86 coupe that Subaru is working on with Toyota

Mitsubishi has released the pricing for its top Lancer Evolution model, the Lancer Evolution MR Touring. The MR Touring model starts at $40,990 and easily moves the car into the price range of many luxury models.

The MR Touring comes standard with the all the good stuff as the MR model, which includes the 291-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, six-speed dual clutch transmission, S-AWC all-wheel-drive system, Brembo brakes and 18-inch BBS wheels. What the Touring adds is a standard glass sunroof, a subtle lip spoiler and leather heated Recaro seats.

If those features aren't enough Mitsubishi has a list of extra's that can be added to the car and if you go crazy enough and select all of them you're looking at a price tag of $52,728. Wow!

Subaru has given the details of what we can expect to see in Tokyo next month, but unfortunately we will not see a concept version of its version of the FT-86 coupe that it is working on with Toyota. For now we have to make due with the numerous sketches and spy photos.

More details continue to surface about Subaru's version (086A) and now we have more details of what might be in store for the STI version. According Japanese publication Holiday Auto, the regular Subaru 086A will be very close to Toyota's version, although it will have subtle styling tweaks, but will be powered by the same 2.0L flat-four boxer engine. The STI version gets more exciting by using the 2.5L flat-four with between 240-250 horsepower. The STI version would also get more styling tweaks to make room for a wider track and wheels. The addition of STi only aero parts lke a unique front bumper and rear spoiler are also expected.

2010 Subaru Outback Wins Motor Trend's SUV of the Year Award

Motor Trend has announced the recipient of this year's 2010 Sport Utility of the Year Award and for the second year in a row it goes to a Subaru. The 2010 Subaru Outback has been named the SUV of the Year.

MOTOR TREND editor-in-chief, Angus MacKenzie, said, "The 2010 Subaru Outback offers a unique combination of comfort, efficiency, versatility and value. It boasts car-like refinement, drivability and gas mileage on the road, yet is as capable in the rough stuff as all but the most off-road focused sport utilities. Thoughtfully engineered, cleverly detailed and competitively priced, the Subaru Outback is a terrific all-rounder with broad appeal."

The Outback beat out the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Toyota 4Runner and others to take this year's award. Last year the Subaru Forester took home the award.

Toyota May Revive the Celica Name for its Upcoming RWD Coupe

Toyota recently unveiled a concept version of its new rear-wheel-drive coupe in Tokyo. The production version that is the result of a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru is expected to go on sale some time in 2012. Toyota hasn't announced what the official name will be for the coupe, but according to Autocar, the coupe could be named the Celica.

The concept is currently badged FT-86, but the latest rumors are suggesting that Toyota is currently evaluating the Celica name since it has a long history.

Next-Gen Honda Civic Reportedly Will be Smaller, Lighter and More Fuel-Efficient

The Honda Civic has consistently remained near the top of the sales charts for years, but according to the latest reports, product chief Tsuneo Tanai has told engineers to go back to the drawing board for the next Civic. When gas prices spiked and the economy took a nose dive, the Civic was in high demand. It even managed to become the best selling vehicle in the US in May 2008. But Tanai is obviously not satisfied with the current state of the Civic and has ordered that the new Civic needs to be smaller, cheaper, lighter and more fuel efficient.

The change for the Civic was reportedly ordered last year, so it is not certain what this will mean for the next Civic which was expected to be unveiled at the end of 2010 as a 2011 model. Hopefully there won't be much of a delay since the Civic is going to have to go head to head with the next Focus and Chevy Cruze.

Report: Honda is Working on a Next-Gen Hybrid System for its Larger Vehicles

Although Honda now has the Insight and Civic hybrids and the upcoming CR-Z, Honda is missing a larger hybrid to compete with the Fusion and Camry hybrids. Honda did have an Accord hybrid with the last generation, but the fact that it was mated to a six-cylinder, many of us didn't notice it. Well it looks like Honda is finally working on a new hybrid system that will be offered in Honda's larger models like the Accord.

According to the Automotive News, Honda is working on a new hybrid system for its larger vehicles that will be different than the current system offered in the Civic and Insight. The new system will use two electric motors compared to the single electric motor that Honda is currently using.

"That is one major initiative we are working on," COO of automobile operations at Honda Tsuneo Tanai, told Automotive News. "The motor will have higher output. There will be dual motors, with a larger battery that enables the car to be driven in all-electric mode."

Tanai did not reveal when we can expect to see the new system and which vehicles it will be offered in. According to Japan's Nikkei business daily Honda is planning a hybrid minivan in 2011.

Subaru 086A Coupe to Get Turbocharged Engines and All-Wheel-Drive

As we sit here and wait patiently for Subaru to unveil its version of the rear-wheel-drive coupe, that is a result of the collaboration with Toyota, more speculation continues to surface about what we might see. Toyota already unveiled a concept version of its coupe codenamed FT-86, the Subaru version has been codenamed 086A and will supposedly bigger and badder than its twin.

Well the latest reports are claiming that Subaru's coupe will be all-wheel-drive instead of the rear-wheel-drive setup of the Toyota version. The base engine will be a turbocharged 2.0L with 250 horsepower and the STI version will put out 308 horsepower. The Subaru coupe is also going to be bigger than its Toyota twin. Lastly more power, all-wheel-drive and bigger exterior dimensions also means that the Subaru version will be priced higher than the Toyota.

Acura has Announced the Euro Accord Wagon will come to the US as the 2011 TSX Sport Wagon

For those of us that have been complaining that Honda didn't choose to offer the Euro Accord wagon in the US instead of the 2010 Accord Crosstour, you can stop your whining. Acura has confirmed that the Euro Honda Accord wagon will be offered in the US in 2011 as the Acura TSX sport wagon.

Acura didn't release any other info about the new sport wagon and it's not known what will be changed from the Euro version, hopefully not much. It is slated to arrive in the fall of 2010.
